The PAIC second workshop on the Island of Vis took place from February 12 to February 23, 2018, in the City of Vis. Dinko Božanić and Slovenian artist Valerie Wolf Gang worked with Antun Matijašević Karamaneo high school students and developed two participatory video projects that shared similar approach but used different poetics, both dealing with different perspectives on Vis’ present and future. The participants created multi-perspective videos, taking the co-authorship role over the entire process of filmmaking. The participatory video approach is chosen because it allows the community stakeholders to truly actively contribute and transform their knowledge, skills, self-image, adding new layers on their identity.
Both workshops used compatible methodology and topic settings, discussing and rethinking the future of the island (culture). At the workshop mentored by Croatian film maker Dinko Božanić, children and parents gave different perspective on the life of the island, and at the other workshop, mentored by by Slovenian artist Valerie Wolf Gang, Antun Matijašević Karamaneo high school students told stories about the island using movement, poetry and music.
Presentation of video works took place on Friday, February 23, 2018, at 8.30 p.m., at the International University Centre Vern, after the roundtable discussion.
